Stephen Harper is the kingpin of HST. He (and buddy Flaherty) is the person using taxpayers money (our money 4.3 billion of it) to bribe McGuinty to get harmonized. But there is absolutely no harmony in the merging of the two taxes. The HST will do wonders for large corporations and may attract investment but there is no guarantee.
Problem is, it is all being done on the backs of the middle class and even more so on the poor. Even small businesses supposedly the engine of the economy, will find it more difficult in that with HST where previously they would be exempt when making purchases for resale, and with the HST they will have to pay the tax up front on inventory that may sit on the shelves for years.
Not only that, if you are one day late remitting you get hit with penalty and interest on 13%. Currently the taxes are filed seperately and may offer breathing space for cash strapped businesses.
On Nov 2th, John Rafferty (Thunder bay - Rainy River) tabled a motion to eliminate the 4.3B incentive and effectively kill the HST.
Here's what Jayson McDonald has to say on his Facebook Group. "M-462 is a Private Members' Motion that was introduced in the Canadian Parliament on November 2, 2009 and would eliminate the $4.3 billion federal payment to the Ontario government that is enabling the HST to be introduced in that province.
Mr. Rafferty's logic is simple - take away the federal payment that is enabling the introduction of the HST, and the Province can't enact it".
Let us all rally for bill M-462 and stop this nasty tax grab.
